"Proof of Yok" by Yok Joaquin

Gallery Ascend is starting 2022 with a bang with their first show featuring Filipino artist Yok Joaquin. Drawing from his architectural background Yok has formed a unique style that combines clean lines and simple figures inspired by architecture, fashion and everyday life.

Regarding his solo exhibition, Yok remarks “At some point in our lives, we feel emotions that we cannot simply explain. There are feelings we keep bottled up and when we try to express it, we still feel like there's something more to it. This show has become a safe space of mine - a place where I can freely express my feelings and emotions without any judgment. For the past few months, this became a personal diary and the paintings included in this show depict who I am.

You can see a rollercoaster of emotions in a short period of time and yet all of them work together to reflect me. All these fragments of emotions are proof that I feel - that I am Yok. Proof that I, myself, exist. This is Proof of Yok.”
